English summary: For a long time it was not considered simply matter-of-course to concern oneself with the history of German Studies. With his professorial dissertation on Jacob Grimm’s “wild philology” published in 1979 Ulrich Wyss was one of the pioneers of a historical approach to critical, self-reflection on the subject. The 25 articles from the past 30 years collected here in a single volume for the first time are characterized by a dogged confrontation with the founding myths of German Studies as well as with the key constellations and circumstances of the past 200 years. The contributions are devoted in particular to those personalities whose portraits reveal characteristic discursive formations in the history of German Studies while also providing readers with an ‘organon for practical research’.
