What is modern scientific geography concerned with today? This volume discusses selected themes in physical and human geography, methodological approaches, societal significance and teaching methods. The 19 chapters include general themes such as contributions on locations, mobility and planning, articles on mountain areas, climate change and ecological issues. Finally, didactic and methodological questions are addressed. The volume seeks to inform, discuss and further develop the latest relevant research findings. It addresses scientific geography, applied and practical geography (in regional planning and development, location development, town planning, cartography, geo computer science) as well as school teachers. The book is the result of the 57th German Geographers’ Congress held in Vienna in 2009.
