Band VII des »Etymologischen Wörterbuchs des Althochdeutschen« enthält die Lemmatastrecken Q – Ska (quaderna – skazzôn).

Volume VII of the “Etymological Dictionary of Old High German” contains the lemmata sections Q – Ska (quaderna – skazzon). In this volume, as in the previous ones, a well-founded etymology is presented for the first time for numerous Old High German words. But there are also plausible proposed solutions for words that have continued into the contemporary language and whose origins are described in etymological works on New High German as “uncertain”. In the case of loan words, the investigation of the respective etyma goes beyond Old High German and Germanic. The dictionary thus offers a solid basis for detailed studies of the loan vocabulary of Old High German. The lemmatization of word formation elements provides the user of the dictionary with insights into derivative-morphological questions. Since modern methods of Indo-European studies such as the laryngeal theory or the system of accent and ablaut classes are consistently applied, the dictionary puts German and Indo-European word research on a secure basis. The clear three-way division of the main lemmas into a German, a Germanic and an Indo-European part means that a wide range of users is addressed.
