The Discours sur l’anatomie du cerveau, published in Paris in 1669, provides an evaluation of much-debated scientific knowledge of the time. First deployed polemically against Cartesianism, it was later read as a manifesto in favour of the rigorous analysis of the machine of the human body.

Review - French Dans leDiscours sur l'anatomie du cerveaupublie a Paris en 1669, Stenon evalue les connaissances les plus debattues de son temps. Il y critique notamment les systemes de Descartes et de Willis, qui instrumentalisent l'anatomie au profit de speculations sur le siege de l'ame. Cet ouvrage n'a jamais beneficie en France d'edition commentee, ni d'etude prenant en compte a la fois sa dimension scientifique et ses enjeux philosophiques. L'histoire de sa reception montre pourtant comment le texte a d'abord ete utilise de maniere polemique contre le cartesianisme, puis lu comme un manifeste permettant de conduire rigoureusement l'analyse de la machine du corps humain.
