The settlement of Dikili Tash, located in short distance from the ruins of the antique city of Philippi in Greek Eastern Macedonia, has been mainly occupied during the Neolithic and Early Bronze Age. This volume presents the aims of the research conducted at the site between 1986 and 2001. It mainly contains a study of the landscape evolution in the Philippi-Drama plain, with emphasis on the distinction of the respective roles of natural factors and human activity. The results shed light on the region’s geomorphology, but also on the history of human settlement from the Neolithic to the Ottoman period. The study is completed by archaeological maps of the region. The present volume is a reprint of the one edited in 2008 by the Archaeological Society at Athens, under a new title and including a foreword. As a witness of the cooperation between the Archaeological Society at Athens and the French School at Athens, it integrates the respective series Bibliotheque de la Societe archeologique d’Athenes (with a new number) and Recherches Franco-Helleniques.
