English summary: This anthology focuses revolves on two interrelated questions. On the one hand, it asks about the significance of experiencing and coping with shame in the traditions of ancient Israel within the context of its surrounding cultures, about possible similarities and differences. On the other hand, it inquires to what extent texts from ancient Israel and its surroundings reflect current experiences of shame and, conversely, to what extent insights of today’s sociology, psychology, and philosophy help to better understand the meaning of shame in ancient texts. Both questions are brought into a mutual conversation, discussing he relevance of contemporary concepts of shame for the understanding of ancient texts as well as the relevance of ancient texts for the verbalization of contemporary experiences of shame. The volume is interdisciplinary research contribution to an always current topic.
