This is second volume of the Roman Temples of Samos concerning the peripteros and naiskos which were erected in front of the big altar of Hera. These temples are part of an extensive reorganization of the sanctuary of Hera in the early Roman Imperial Period with many buildings, which follow the old sacred buildings of the archaic period and their building tradition. The peripteros and naiskos are new buildings, but they do not follow the usual building types of their period. They are singular buildings, which pick up the sacred buildings of the archaic period in a very subtle way.<br/>
Das Heraion von Samos, beruhmt wegen seiner Bauten der archaischen Zeit, verlor nach den Perserkriegen immer mehr an Bedeutung. Erst in der romischen Zeit kam es zu einer Art Nachblute durch die Forderungen des Kaisers Augustus und seines Nachfolgers Tiberius, die bis in die spate Kaiserzeit anhielt. Insgesamt wurden vier romische Tempel im Hera-Heiligtum errichtet. Die beiden Prostyloi wurden bereits ausfuhrlich im ersten Band der romischen Tempel der Samos-Reihe publiziert. Dieser zweite Band widmet sich nun den beiden anderen romischen Tempeln im Heraion von Samos, dem Peripteros und dem Naiskos, die unmittelbar vor dem grossen Altar der Hera errichtet wurden. Sie stehen im Zusammenhang mit einer umfangreichen Neuordnung des Heraion in der fruhen Kaiserzeit mit zahlreichen Baumassnahmen, der Erneuerung des archaischen Altars in Marmor, der Errichtung einer machtigen Freitreppe an der Frontseite des unvollendeten grossen Heratempels und dem Umbau des Monopteros sowie des Sudbaus. Diese intensive Bautatigkeit der fruhen romischen Kaiserzeit knupft an die alten archaischen Kultbauten im Heraion und deren Bautradition an. Der romische Peripteros und Naiskos sind zwar Neubauten, folgen aber keineswegs den ublichen Bauformen ihrer Zeit, sondern sind singulare Bauten, die in einer subtilen Weise die archaischen Kultbauten im Heraion aufgreifen. Auf der Basis detaillierter Bauuntersuchungen wurden die romischen Tempel im Zusammenhang mit der Baugeschichte der Sakralbauten im Heraion seit den Anfangen in der archaischen Zeit bis in die fruhchristliche Zeit betrachtet, was einerseits zu weiteren Uberlegungen einer moglichen Deutung der beiden romischen Tempel vor dem Altar fuhrte, andererseits auch einige Ruckschlusse auf die archaischen Kultbauten ermoglichte.
