At the core of philosophy is a principle of reason related both to standards of knowledge and to orientations of action. In the constructivism of the Erlangen and Konstanz school, this principle gains a logical and methodological profile. The contributions in this volume are dedicated to the works of Kuno Lorenz (dialogical reason) and Friedrich Kambartel (culture of reason).

Jürgen Mittelstraß bekleidete nach seiner philosophischen Promotion und Habilitation die Position des Ordinarius für Philosophie und Wissenschaftstheorie an der Universität Konstanz. Er gewann den Leibniz-Preis der DFG und war Präsident der Allgemeinen Gesellschaft für Philosophie in Deutschland, Präsident der Academia Europaea (London) sowie Vorsitzender des Österreichischen Wissenschaftsrates. 2015 erfolgte die Ernennung zum Honorarprofessor der Universität Salzburg.
