Der Kranz tritt im Okzident und in Agypten anfanglich in der Begrabniskultur auf. Spater stand er mehr und mehr auch fur Sieg, was sich vom orientalischen Nasenseil mit Ring ableitet und in der orientalisierenden Periode Griechenlands in den Okzident ubernommen und adaptiert wurde. In die sasanidische Ikonographie wurde der Kranz aus dem Okzident reimportiert: Er symbolisiert nun Sieg bzw. Ehrung oder den Sepulkralaspekt. Dieses Buch untersucht den Kranz in Ost und West von seinem ersten Auftreten bis in die Spatantike. Der Autor entwickelt eine neue Lesart der Inschrift ANRm-b und interpretiert Felsreliefs mit Kranzubergabe mithilfe eines gruppentheoretischen Ansatzes aus der Mathematik neu: als Ehrung eines verstorbenen Vorgangers des aufraggebenden Sasanidenherrschers.
