Das vorliegende Buch verdeutlicht die Rolle dieses Herrschergeschlechts in England selbst sowie im Beziehungsgeflecht der ubrigen Reiche Europas. Dargestellt wird die politische Ereignisgeschichte von Heinrich II. und Richard I. Lowenherz, denen praktisch noch der gesamte Westen Frankreichs gehorte, uber den Hundertjahrigen Krieg bis zu den Rosenkriegen. Inhaltliche Schwerpunkte liegen zudem auf den sozialen und kulturellen Entwicklungen, auf dem Verwaltungs-, Finanz- und Rechtswesen, auf den Formen politischer Herrschaft und der Ausbildung des Parlaments, auf den Beziehungen zwischen “weltlicher” und “geistlicher” Gewalt sowie auf der “Aussenpolitik” zu Wales, Schottland und Irland, zu Deutschland und Frankreich, Italien und Spanien. Insgesamt wird dabei die grosse Bedeutung dieser Dynastie fur die gesamte Geschichte Europas im Mittelalter gewurdigt.
