Der Laienspiegel von Ulrich Tengler ist eines der ersten umfassenden Rechtsbucher in deutscher Sprache. Er wurde erstmals 1509 in Augsburg gedruckt und ubte mehr als 100 Jahre lang starken Einfluss auf die Rechtsentwicklung im deutschen Sprachraum aus. Er behandelt das Zivilrecht, das Strafrecht und das Offentliche Recht und diente nicht akademisch gebildeten Amtstragern sowie anderen Laienjuristen in Rechtspflege und Rechtsgestaltung. Der Laienspiegel verbindet romisches und lokales Recht aus der Tradition des Mittelalters mit modernen Bezugen. Das gilt fur das materielle Recht, fur zivil- und strafrechtliche Verfahren, aber auch fur die methodische Schulung anhand eines Teufelsprozesses. Er wurde pragend fur die deutsche Sprache. Die mehr als 30 Holzstiche veranschaulichen das Recht eindrucksvoll. Der interdisziplinare Tagungsband beleuchtet die verschiedenen Fragen des Rechts aus rechtshistorischer, germanistischer und kunsthistorischer Perspektive.
