Das Buch des Lebens
by Gerold Necker
English summary: Gerold Necker’s study Das Buch des Lebens offers for the first time thecomplete edition of this work along with an introduction, a transla-tion and a commentary. It also includes a detailed discussion ofdate, authorship and origin of the Book of Life : Gerold Necker arguesthat it was written in Northern France at the height of the tosafisticera. His analysis shows how the author of the Book of Life respondsto the historical situation of French Jewry at the end of the 12thcentury and to certain current theological ideas in the Latin-Christian environment.
