Fur den Heidelberger Philosophen Hans-Georg Gadamer ist ein Kunstwerk kein statisches Objekt, sondern ein sich wandelndes Subjekt, das uns dialogisch gegenubertritt. Kunstwerke sieht Gadamer in ihrem prozesshaften Wesen bestimmt, die im Vollzug uberhaupt erst zu ihrem vollen Sein gelangen – der Sinn von Kunst geschieht. Das “Bild als Ereignis” bezeichnet somit viel mehr als nur einen materiellen Bildtrager und einen daruber vermittelten geistigen Gehalt, sondern ein dynamisches Sinngeschehen zwischen Werk und Betrachter. Ausgehend von diesen Uberlegungen Gadamers sollen in vorliegendem Band unterschiedliche Formen spatmittelalterlicher Kunst neu diskutiert und so eine Erweiterung kunsthistorischer Betrachtungsweisen angeregt werden. Die Beitrage sind alle aus dem gleichnamigen Kolloquium hervorgegangen, das im Februar 2011 in Heidelberg stattgefunden hat, und widmen sich sowohl theoretischen Fragestellungen als auch der Analyse einzelner Objekte im Kontext des Ereignisbegriffes von Bildern.
