Christologie und Kanonistik. Der Dreikapitelstreit in merowingischen libri canonum

Um 550 beschimpfte Bischof Nicetius von Trier ( 566/569) Kaiser Justinian (565) als “Sohn des Teufels”, weil jener die sogenannten Drei Kapitel als haretisch verdammt hatte. Der sich darin zeigende ‘Dreikapitelstreit’, eine Episode der seit dem 5. Jahrhundert tobenden Kontro-versen um die Christologie, erschutterte den gesamten Mittelmeerraum. Anders als die grobe Polemik des Nicetius vermuten lasst, zeigt vor-liegende Studie, dass sich die Bischofe des merowingischen Frankenreichs aussert differenziert zum Dreikapitelstreit positionierten. Zumindest einige von ihnen legten dabei auch eine uberraschende Offenheit fur den Neo-Chalcedonismus an den Tag, jene theologische Tradition, die Justinians Religionspolitik zugrunde lag. Dies wird aufgezeigt ausgehend von drei gallischen Kirchenrechtssammlungen des spaten 6. Jahrhun-derts, deren so idiosynkratische wie – auf den ersten Blick – chaotische Textzusammenstellung sehr bewusst erfolgte und eine auf theologische und ekklesiologische Koharenz bedachte Auseinandersetzung mit den christologischen Debatten erkennen lasst. Der Band zeichnet somit ein Bild der merowingischen Episkopatsmitglieder als engagierte und selbst-bewusste Disputanten in den Fragen, die der Dreikapitelstreit aufgewor-fen hatte. Anhange bieten zudem den Text eines bisher vernachlassigten Briefs des Bischofs Cyprian von Toulon ( ca. 546) zur Christologie mit deutscher Ubersetzung sowie ein kommentiertes Inhaltsverzeichnis der bislang nur unzureichend beschriebenen Collectio Sancti Mauri.
