A l’instar de ses voisines, la cite de Fribourg mobilisait sa population masculine pour defendre ses murs et partir en guerre. Les documents militaires d’une grande richesse conserves aux Archives de l’Etat de Fribourg permettent de saisir les aspects fonctionnels de l’organisation militaire de la ville entre 1350 et 1550. En recoupant ces pieces avec des sources administratives et comptables, ce livre propose une analyse quantitative et serielle qui met en lumiere l’influence de la situation economique des acteurs dans la possession d’equipement militaire, l’adaptation du systeme de recrutement des troupes a l’expansion du territoire fribourgeois et l’affirmation des capacites militaires de la ville a travers l’accroissement du parc municipal d’armes. L’enquete revele ainsi la diversite des liens entre le systeme militaire et la societe urbaine.
