Nella Parigi del primo Novecento un nuovo regolamento edilizio avvia la trasformazione della strada modificando l’aspetto della citta e dei suoi fronti. Svincolando gli architetti dal rispetto delle antiche norme di allineamento e dagli ottocenteschi criteri di uniformita del disegno delle facciate, le nuove regole diventano occasione e incentivo per inedite soluzioni architettoniche che aprono la strada agli sviluppi dell’Art Nouveau e alle sperimentazioni in seguito codificate dal Movimento Moderno. Il volume affronta le trasformazioni dell’architettura e della strada parigina all’interno della cultura architettonica che le ha prodotte, mettendo in luce dibattiti e protagonisti inediti della storia della citta all’inizio del XX secolo. Ne emerge una storia di transizioni e cambiamenti in cui acquistano nuovi significati alcune tra le piu rilevanti opere del primo Novecento parigino.
