En posant le probleme de la puissance a partir de la perspective de son abandon et du courage si singulier qu’implique un tel geste, Simone Weil parvient a eviter l’ecueil de l’absolutisme politique. L’etude anthropologique d’une vie politique et sociale en son essence profondement violente dans la mesure ou elle est fondee sur la lutte pour la puissance demontre au contraire l’instabilite de tout pouvoir. Renoncer a la souverainete est presque un miracle que seul Dieu aurait reussi a accomplir. La reformulation du dilemme de la theodicee – Dieu est tout-puissant mais il ne commande pas partout – permet alors de rompre definitivement avec la solution trop hative du Dieu impuissant ou en puissance. Enfin, la figure du Dieu abdiquant eclaire d’une lumiere vive un double phenomene propre a la modernite : la theologisation du politique et la depolitisation de la societe. Le paradigme de l’abdication permet ainsi de redefinir les contours du theologico-politique, hors de toute imbrication du religieux et du politique.
