This spring, the ISD team exhibited at six major scholarly conferences across North America, connecting with librarians, faculty, researchers, conservators, and publishing partners across a wide range of disciplines. From archaeology and Egyptology to medieval studies, patristics, Asian studies, and cultural heritage conservation, our conference season showcased the breadth of scholarship represented by ISD’s publishing partners.
One of the highlights was our first appearance at the American Institute for Conservation (AIC/CAC) Annual Meeting in Montréal. Our booth attracted a steady stream of conservators, museum professionals, archivists, and preservation specialists, many of whom were already familiar with the outstanding list from Archetype Publications. One of the most talked-about titles was Pest Management: A Handbook for Cultural Heritage by David Pinniger, a thoroughly revised and expanded guide to preventing and managing pest damage in museums, libraries, archives, galleries, and historic houses.
The International Congress on Medieval Studies in Kalamazoo has long been one of ISD’s cornerstone conferences, and we have proudly exhibited there for many years. This year’s display featured an extensive selection from publishers including Brepols, Freelance Academy Press, Viella, and many other leading publishers in medieval history, theology, literature, manuscript studies, and art history. This year’s meeting was especially meaningful as we celebrated Tom Prins of The Scholar’s Choice, who marked his 50th International Congress on Medieval Studies. Tom has been a familiar and valued presence not only at Kalamazoo but at scholarly conferences across North America for decades. ISD has had the pleasure of working alongside Tom at many conferences over the years, and we were delighted to recognize this remarkable milestone and his longstanding contributions to the scholarly bookselling community.
At the Society for American Archaeology, attendees browsed new publications from Archaeopress, Cotsen Institute of Archaeology (UCLA), University of Pennsylvania Museum, and Eliot Werner Publications. Among the featured titles was The Future of Archaeology, edited by Gary M. Feinman and T. Douglas Price, an engaging collection exploring how archaeological research continues to shape our understanding of both the past and today’s global challenges.
Our exhibit at the American Research Center in Egypt showcased recent scholarship from Archaeopress, Egypt Exploration Society, Harrassowitz, IFAO, and Lockwood Press. Highlights included Ancient Egypt in 50 Discoveries, the latest volume from the Egypt Exploration Society, as well as The Amarna Letters: The Syro-Levantine Correspondence and the Journal of the American Research Center in Egypt (JARCE) from Lockwood Press.
We also enjoyed exhibiting at the American Society for Premodern Asia in Los Angeles and the North American Patristics Society in Chicago, where we met scholars from across the fields of Asian studies, early Christianity, theology, and late antiquity.
