The youth and life reform movements have, until now, been viewed primarily as a German phenomenon of the 20th century. Upon closer examination, this perspective proves to be a narrow, isolated view. For in the 19th and 20th centuries, there were comparable youth and life reform movements worldwide that had many connections with one another. The studies presented here draw on relevant source materials, analyze globally significant concepts and their transformation, examine transnational processes of reception, and explore relevant individuals, intercultural groups, and cross-border networks. The contributions offer new perspectives for the study of youth and life reform movements worldwide, thereby also opening new paths for the Archive of the German Youth Movement and for research on youth and life reform movements in German-speaking regions.
