This work focuses on the question of the meaning of the late antique quaestiones by examining culture-specific forms of perception that define the behavior of the actors involved. Defenders, prosecutors, and judges are understood in terms of their interrelated and strictly normalized roles, the interaction of which played an extremely significant role.
English Summary: Hardly any institution of the Roman Republic had more power over the reputation and fate of the citizens of all classes than the courthouses of the last century B.C. At the same time only few institutions of that time period have caused bigger disputes in research with their functionality and purpose in mind. This work focuses on the question of the meaning of the late antique “quaestiones” by examining culture-specific forms of perception that define the behaviour of the actors involved. Defenders, prosecutors, and judges are understood in terms of their interrelated and strictly normalized roles, the interaction of which played an extremely significant role.
