In this book the topic “Islam and the 18. century” is extensively presented and critically evaluated for the first time. “Islam” seems to be a self-evident term whose birth dates from 7th-century Arabia and whose story is told from the view of this epicenter. The studies in the history of religion presented here take a different perspective, because this expression cannot be found in the German-language literature of the 18th century. “Islam” is not a reference represented in the 18th century. On the other hand, the sources provide many textual representations of the Prophet MAHOMET. These representations are multifaceted and contradictory. In addition of references to fraud, they talk about sensible religion, in addition to mentions of heresy, there appears prudent statesmanship. In the 25 chapters of this book representations of the Prophet in the historical context of the 18th century are visited and presented.
