English summary: This volume presents all essential aspects of the House of Zahringen’s rule at the current state of research, 800 years after the death of its last duke. The collection stems from a conference that took place in September 2016 in St. Peter in the Black Forest, Zahringen’s private monastery. In recent decades, historical research has brought to light numerous new insights into this seemingly much-treated topic. Renowned scientists met in St. Peter to exchange their findings and to draw conclusions based on decades of research. The contributions show numerous new perspectives: the position of the House of Zahringen in European context, their representations of power that are still visible today, such as the first construction of Freiburg Cathedral, or new insights into the history of the Bocklin Cross. Last but not least, based on the issue of the ducal succession, they raise fundamental questions about the structure of domination within the Empire around 1218.
