Demonstrations are part of a democratic opinion-forming and decision-making process, and not infrequently – even in Europe – they are associated with violence, which is perceived and practiced as a legitimate expression of discontent. Here, the danger of instrumentalization of the freedom of demonstration by violent groups for their own purposes becomes apparent. The contributions aim to reflect on the current global phenomenon of violence in various countries as a form of articulation of political protest from an ethical perspective and to explore possibilities of participation in a democratic society that do not endanger peaceful coexistence.
