English summary: The artist Lorenzo Lotto had worked for more than 20 years in other Italian cities before returning to his home city of Venice in the 1520s. Here he created the monumental portrait of the art collector Andrea Odoni. Against the background of the crisis in painting, which reached its first climax at this time, Henry Kaap draws a bridge between the painter’s and the portrayed person’s views on art.
