Hermann Stieglecker was the first Christian scholar to present a comprehensive volume on Islamic teachings in the Sunna tradition, first published in 4 volumes between 1959 and 1962. His approach to Islam is characterized by high empathy and understanding, which made him a pioneer of dialogue. The new edition is result of a cooperation between the Forum fur Weltreligionen (Forum of Interfaith Studies) and the Institute of Oriental Studies of the University, both in Vienna.
