Der Mensch ist ein selbsttranszendentes und weltoffenes Wesen. Religion als Beziehung zu einem fundierenden Grund von Selbst und Welt gehort daher zum Menschsein des Menschen. Als anthropologisches Universale ist sie nicht substituierbar bzw. nur durch Religion zu ersetzen. Die neuzeitliche Religionskritik falsifiziert diesen Befund nicht, sondern bestatigt ihn.
