This study compiles existing representations of music education history post-1945. Using this method helps identify core themes and central narratives that shape the historiography of the discipline during this period. The analysis evaluates the validity of the narrative and metaphor of ‘reorientation’ (Neuorientierung) and draws broader conclusions for systematic historiography.
