In recent years, an amazing increase of studies on Baroque Scholasticism testifies to a shifted focus in doing the history of early modern philosophy. As the Western notion of history of philosophy rests on the exclusion of the Jesuit contribution, this failure cannot be mended without the conviction that the whole divide between Medieval and Modern is outdated and should be entirely overcome.

Sven K. Knebel studierte Philosophie und Geschichte in Tübingen und Berlin. Nach der Promotion 1987 war er freier Mitarbeiter am „Historischen Wörterbuch der Philosophie“. Die Habilitation folgte im Jahr 2000, woraufhin Knebel als Privatdozent am Institut für Philosophie der Freien Universität Berlin lehrte. Heute lebt er in Osnabrück.
