Talk about ‘persons in action’ does not refer to brain states causing someone to move. Instead, we talk about members of our society of public deliberators, being responsible for occurrences in the world. This ascriptivistic conception of agency is defended in 33 essays (11 in English), also drawing conclusions for ethics. The book closes with articles on personhood, death and the meaning of life.
