Cet ouvrage va s’attacher a definir la fiction – notion a la fois familiere et insaisissable. Autrement dit, un texte est-il fictionnel par les mots qu’il emploie, l’intention de son auteur, la reception qu’en font ses lecteurs, etc.? En outre, si l’on attribue souvent la fictionalite a certains livres ou a certains films, qu’en est-il des autres domaines artistiques? La peinture, la photographie ou la musique, par exemple, peuvent-elles etre considerees comme fictionnelles? Enfin, a travers l’etude de deux textes de philosophes contemporains, Gregory Currie et Kendall Walton, l’ouvrage va aussi poser la question du personnage, de son nom et de ses proprietes, ainsi que celle des emotions provoquees par la fiction – en tentant notamment d’expliquer le fait paradoxal que nous avons parfois peur d’etres qui n’existent pas.
