Welche Rolle spielte das Geschlecht uberhaupt bei zivilrechtlichen Verfahren? Solche Fragen stehen im Mittelpunkt dieses Bandes, der sich speziell mit der Inanspruchnahme von Reichskammergericht und Reichshofrat durch Frauen beschaftigt. In der Tat erweist sich mit einem Blick auf die zivilrechtliche Praxis, dass die Frauen der fruhneuzeitlichen Gesellschaft – unabhangig vom Stand und uber alle Regionen hinweg – sehr wohl Rechte besassen, die sie in grosser Zahl vor Gericht einklagten und mit Hilfe von Urteilen auch durchsetzen konnten. Das Geschlecht spielte gegenuber anderen Entscheidungskriterien offenbar nur eine nachgeordnete Rolle.
