English summary: This volume of about 300 pages with text in Italian documents the architecture of the city of Rome from antiquity to the present day, taking the reader on a chronological and topographical journey through over 600 buildings with the help of analytic datasheets and photographs. A series of maps specially drawn up for the individual areas of the city enables rapid location of the monuments and reference to the datasheet. The editor’s introduction appropriately precedes the body of datasheets and maps by tracing out a historical overview and signposting the various thematic itineraries, while an index by typologies and names concludes the volume.
