The present volume is concerned with some of the work done at Pichnvari between 1960 and 1989. Perhaps the most significant contribution was the investigation of the Greek cemetery which constitutes the largest ethnic Greek necropolis in the Black Sea region.
The present volume is concerned with some of the work done at Pichnvari between 1960 and 1989. Coin hoards had led to the identification of the site in the 1950s. Small-scale fieldwork was carried out in 1953 and 1956 , but it was only in 1960 that large scale excavation began. Perhaps the most significant contribution was the investigation of the Greek cemetery which constitutes the largest ethnic Greek necropolis in the Black Sea region.
