Mecanique quantique du couple.
English summary: We recently learned that a significant part of what makes quantum physics unique resides in the way in which it describes not one, but two, three or multiple isolated objects, as well as the rule of their composition. In other words, what is the significance of taking two entities and treating them as if they were just one? Drawing upon ancient tales and contemporary metaphors, this book relates three key moments in the thought surrounding this issue. For ever since Antiquity, people have been intrigued with the idea of turning two systems into a single one: the author demands an explanation, calls for a revision of dogma and thus creates a theoretical upheaval. Greek philosophy was interested in it; Christian theology has raised this concept to the status of doctrinal dilemma; and quantum mechanics is examining the composition within a different, rigorous and mathematical framework. For the first time, the latter makes it possible to subject the answer to an empirical test. Nonetheless, archaic quarrels which had been thought to be obsolete are turning out to be surprisingly similar to modern-day concerns. In this book, they are exposed through encounters with a few mythical figures: gods, physicians of yore, and the heroes of contemporary culture.
