The Heidelberg Catechism is one of the most widely known German theological texts. Since it was first published in 1563, it has been translated into around forty languages and has spread to all continents. Generations of people from all around the world once learned and are still learning from its questions and its answers of what it means to be a Christian. In some parts of Reformed Protestantism, the “Heidelberg” is still regarded as a basic fundamental text. In this volume, the authors look at the significance of the Heidelberg Catechism today. They reveal its key theological emphasis, examine its diverse effects and illuminate its ecumenical impact. The contributors agree that the “Heidelberg” still holds answers for contemporary Christian understanding.
