Even over 40 years after his death, Karl Barth remains a controversial figure. His opponents have long asserted that he was a “communist,” and that assertion still stands in certain circles. The author takes this as the starting point to demonstrate how, in fact, Karl Barth’s theology motivated the theology and church in the GDR to become a free theology and church under a dictatorship, and helped to create the preconditions necessary for the “peaceful revolution.”

DE
