Bereits in der ersten Halfte des 20. Jahrhunderts attestierten Politikwissenschaftler amerikanischen Unternehmen und ihren Verbanden einen ubergrossen Einfluss im politischen Prozess und stellten die Existenz eines pluralistischen Systems der Interessenvermittlung in Frage. Trotzdem sind umfassende Studien zu Unternehmensverbanden in den USA bis heute eher eine Ausnahme geblieben. Dieses Buch hat das Ziel zu untersuchen, inwieweit business associations tatsachlich eine herausragende Stellung in der amerikanischen Verbandelandschaft einnehmen und es vermogen, ihre Interessen im Wettstreit mit konkurrierenden Gruppen in hoherem Masse als diese durchzusetzen. Hierfur wird zunachst das amerikanische System der Interessenvermittlung in seinen Grundzugen beleuchtet, ehe die Entstehung und Struktur der Unternehmensverbande naher analysiert und ihre politische Arbeit den Aktivitaten anderer Verbande gegenubergestellt wird. Die Untersuchung schliesst mit zwei Fallstudien, die Art und Weise verbandlicher Einflussnahme in der Innen- und Aussenpolitik aufzeigen sollen.
