In den kritischen Studien zur zeitgenossischen Chicano/a-Literatur ist wiederholt von Strategien des Widerstandes und der Oppositionalitat zu lesen. Der Ironie und der Parodie als Form ironischer Gestaltung ist in diesem Zusammenhang bisher nur wenig Beachtung geschenkt worden. Die Untersuchung konzentriert sich daher auf eine systematische Explikation der Funktionsweise von Ironie und Parodie als Verfahren einer gebrochenen Perspektivierung im mexikanisch-amerikanischen Gegenwartsroman. Den Interpretationen ausgewahlter Texte werden einige grundlegende Uberlegungen zur Parodie, Ironie und Komik, aber auch zur Diskurstheorie und zu Fragen der Identitat und Ethnizitat vorangestellt. Dabei nehmen die Probleme einer Integration rassischer und ethnischer Traditionen in die komplexen Entwicklungsprozesse einer modernen und postmodernen Welt einen zentralen Stellenwert ein. In ihrer (post-)modernen Asthetisierung fungieren Ironie und Parodie auch in Prosatexten anderer ethnischer Autor(inn)en als kunstlerisches Instrumentarium und kulturelle ‘Uberlebensstrategie’. Als Perspektiven der Inkongruenz und der Negation tragen sie somit in entscheidendem Masse zu einer neuen ethnischen Auffassungsweise von Welt bei.
