Diary 1945«: The 1945 diary describes the final weeks of the war, marked by the collapse of state structures, the advance of the Red Army, and the establishment of a Soviet occupation authority, which was later replaced by an American one. Due to his collaboration with the Nazi regime, Carl Schmitt quickly came under scrutiny – first by the Russians and then by the Americans, who arrested him on September 26. Alongside the hardships caused by the catastrophic end of the war – including material deprivation, hunger, and a state of lawlessness – the diary also reflects Schmitt’s clear awareness of his own complicity in the establishment of the Nazi state.
