Peter Scott Brown (PhD History of Art, Yale University, 2004) is Professor of Art History at the University of North Florida.  His teaching and research address the monumental contexts of liturgy and religious ritual, the utility of artworks, the transmission of ideas, iconography, and historiography across the fields of medieval and early modern art.  His publications include studies of Romanesque architectural sculpture, epigraphy and problems of text in medieval and early modern art, and the iconography of the murderous Biblical heroine Jael. His current research examines the social and economic conditions for the monumental turn in eleventh century art in France and Spain.
