This guide invites us to discover ‘Sicilia archeologica vista dal cielo’, as imagined by Sebastiano Tusa, who came up with the idea of narrating the history of Sicily through aerial images, a far-sighted idea aimed at disseminating information about Sicily’s cultural heritage. The Guide It is intended to be a journey that leads the reader to discover the most famous sites, but above all the lesser known ones, with a view to increasingly expanding the mosaic tiles that make up the great cultural heritage of our Sicily from prehistory to the Roman period.” Sicilia archeologica vista dal cielo’ is full of aerial images that show the uniqueness of our territory from an unusual and original perspective, as if seen “from the sky”. Above all, it is an evocative book to look at, to read, but also to discover: nothing is taken for granted, neither in the text nor in the images, which rather lead the reader to discover Sicily. Reading about the historical phases and the conquests that followed one another, in a historical-geographical itinerary, explains the natural succession of peoples and cultures that have forged it with peculiar characteristics, outlining an ethnopolitical geography and a history of the environment and man-made landscapes that have given rise to the current panorama where it is now difficult to distinguish the work of nature from human transformations. The Guide has been published thanks to the fundamental support of the President of the Sicilian Regional Assembly, Gaetano Galvagno, who believed in the Sebastiano Tusa Foundation’s project.
