Sepulkrale Hofarchitekturen im Hellenismus

Bei dieser Monografie handelt es sich um eine vergleichende Untersuchung der Architektur und Funktion sepulkraler Hofarchitekturen in Alexandria (Agypten), Nea Paphos (Zypern) und Kyrene (Libyen) in hellenistischer Zeit.Hofarchitekturen-Innenhofe, Vorhofe und Hofe-im Kontext von Grabanlagen begegnen uns im gesamten antiken Mittelmeerraum. Solche Raume am Grab entstanden aus einem bestimmten Bedurfnis heraus, welches sich aus den Todes- und Jenseitsvorstellungen der jeweiligen Bevolkerung entwickelte. Sie wurden teilweise aufwendig gestaltet und es wurden unterschiedliche Ausstattungen wie etwa Wasser- oder Opferinstallationen integriert, die eindeutig auf eine regelmassige Nutzung dieser Hofarchitekturen deuten. Funde von sowohl kultspezifischen Gegenstanden als auch einfacher Gebrauchskeramik untermauern die Bedeutung solcher Interaktionsraume. Ausgehend von drei ausgewahlten Gebieten – Alexandria in Agypten, Nea Paphos auf Zypern und Kyrene in Libyen – in denen in hellenistischer Zeit sowohl die Architektur der Graber als auch die der Hofe stark divergierten, wird der Architektur und Ausstattung sowie der Funktion und Bedeutung so genannter sepulkraler Hofarchitekturen nachgegangen. Neben einer Einbettung der Grabanlagen in den Kontext der Grabarchitektur des ubrigen Mittelmeerraumes dieser Zeit werden auch unterschiedliche Vorbilder aus dem stadtischen Kontext sowie der Funerallandschaften der Regionen untersucht. Welche Vorstellungen von einer postmortalen Existenz konnen in den ausgewahlten Regionen noch festgestellt werden und inwiefern konnen in diesem Zusammenhang Handlungen im Hof rekonstruiert werden? Ein ausfuhrlicher Katalog der insgesamt 136 erhaltenen Hofarchitekturen der drei Gebiete schliesst sich der Arbeit an.
