Basato su uno studio vasto e attento delle fonti e della saggistica contemporanea, il volume pone un’ enfasi sugli aspetti politici dei grandi processi ed eventi dell’epoca, ma anche sugli aspetti umani, famigliari e sociali del processo politico; e ripropone una lettura allargata di quest’ultimo, mettendo l’accento anche su personaggi “minori”. Il libro e il prodotto di un autonomo progetto di ricerca svolto nel 2013 presso la University of California, Berkeley-Department Ancient History and Mediterranean Archaeology, Berkeley, California, Stati Uniti d’America.
