The aim of this dossier is to explore the relationship between the French roman (i.e., the novel) and romance in its various senses: romance as a musical genre, the English romance (a form of narrative distinct from the novel), and even theatrical romance as theorized by György Lukács. It does so through the study of various authors and reflections on literary criticism and the ethics of fiction.
