What are the representations and stakes of philosophy and fiction, their exchanges, interactions, and deliminations from Late Antiquity to the Renaissance? Though fiction can appear as the reverse of truth, it is no less a form of search for truth, knowledge, or wisdomAugustine or Boethius, the Latin allegorical poems of the twelfth century, the encyclopedias of the thirteenth century, followed by allegorical works written in the court of Charles V and Charles VI all problematize the status of fiction: what is its philosophical legitimation? What are the relations between philosophy and liberal arts, philosophy and poetics, philosophy and theology?
