Around 1900, the concept of the strange changed, shaping new narratives. This ongoing reflection emerges at the intersection of discourses such as ethnology and psychoanalysis, themes such as colonialism and prostitution, and categories of difference such as gender and Judaism. Kafka’s Sohne’ and Musil’s Drei Frauen show how literature both aestheticizes and reveals these facets of the strange.
