English summary: Konrad of Megenberg is regarded as the late medieval pioneer of German scientific prose aimed at lay audiences. On the occasion of his seven hundredth anniversary, an exhibition presented his main work, the “Buch der Natur,” which is preserved in four manuscripts held at the University Library of Heidelberg. In accordance with the medieval scholastic world view, he places man and cosmos at the beginning, and then systematically arranges the “natural things” from the three realms of nature-zoology, botany, and geology. The tradition of his work was soon firmly connected to its memorable illustrations, which, like the texts, are based on a long tradition and enjoyed popularity through to modern times. The exhibition catalogue builds on this and shows the development of the illustrated nature book within its respective cultural and historical context, where it increasingly specialized in individual genres or geographical regions. More than one hundred authors are represented with their works, including well-known personalities such as Sebastian Munster, Conrad Gesner, Maria Sibylla Merian, and Carl von Linne. Sein siebenhundertjahriges Geburtsjubilaum ist Anlass genug, sein Hauptwerk, das Buch der Natur’, das in vier Handschriften der Universitatsbibliothek Heidelberg erhalten ist, vorzustellen. Der mittelalterlichen, scholastischen Weltsicht entsprechend stellt er Mensch und Kosmos an den Anfang, um dann die naturlichen Ding’ aus den drei Reichen der Natur – Zoologie, Botanik und Geologie – systematisch zu ordnen. Die Uberlieferung seines Werks ist bald fest verbunden mit einpragsamen Illustrationen, die ebenso wie die Texte auf einer langen Tradition beruhen und ihrerseits eine bis weit in die Neuzeit reichende Nachfolge fanden. Der Ausstellungskatalog greift diese Strange auf und zeigt vor dem jeweils kulturhistorischen Hintergrund die Entwicklung des illustrierten Naturbuchs, das sich zunehmend auf einzelne Gattungen spezialisiert oder nach geographischen Regionen unterteilt. Uber einhundert Autoren sind mit ihren Werken vertreten, darunter bekannte Personlichkeiten wie Sebastian Munster, Conrad Gesner, Maria Sibylla Merian und Carl von Linne. In Handschriften, Inkunabeln und Druckschriften wird so Naturwissen eindrucksvoll prasentiert.
