This book is an accompaniment to a permanent exhibition of the American Southwest. Representatives from the Hopi, Zuni, Apache, and Navajo peoples assisted in developing this book to illustrate ways in which their material cultures reflect their views of the universe. Native American photographers supplied many of the photographs. The fascinating objects that illustrate the text–katsinas, ceramics, and clothing–are all from the collections of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology.
