Mais comment cette philosophie a-t-elle ete recue, modifiee, pliee a de nouvelles exigences au cours des siecles ? Ce livre se penche sur deux moments de l'histoire des idees litteraires, le classicisme et le naturalisme, en essayant de montrer la permanence d'une preoccupation metaphysique, derriere les vicissitudes d'une pensee de la reception et de la convenance morale.
