Les Mille et une Nuits sont multiples, tant par leur forme que par leur contenu. Il s’agit d’histoires contees et de manuscrits, supports de la memoire des conteurs. Comme dans toute tradition manuscrite pluriseculaire, des variantes sont observees, mais dans le cas des Nuits, les differences vont bien au-dela, puisqu’il existe bel et bien plusieurs versions des Nuits en circulation. La recension egyptienne des Mille et une Nuits est l’une d’elles; elle a fait l’objet d’une etude detaillee et exhaustive. Dans cette premiere publication, les papiers sont au centre de nos preoccupations. Leur description materielle, leur contextualisation critique, avec une attention particuliere portee aux filigranes et contremarques qui les caracterisent, permettent d’ameliorer notre connaissance de ce groupe de manuscrits: datation, conditions d’apparition et relation entre chacun des manuscrits de la recension en ressortent plus claires et plus precises.
